Style: Scouts Honor

I found this old Boy Scout shirt when I was digging through my closet and decided I really wanted to wear it with something sparkly and girly for contrast.

Of course, a grown woman wearing a Boy Scout shirt meant the comments from the peanut gallery were in full force:

“Are you going camping? Can you pitch my tent? Did you earn your badge in (insert blatant ignorance here)?”

Sigh.

I started to wonder why I bought that shirt at the thrift store in the first place.  Nostalgia for my old Brownie days? Nah, I hated selling cookies (though eating them is still a favorite pastime).

Inspired by Michael Jackson and his apparent love for elaborate patches? Perhaps.

Flashing back to 1989 and one of the best movies of that era? Definitely!

Does anyone else remember Shelley Long and a pre-Rilo Kiley Jenny Lewis in Troop Beverly Hills? God, I loved that movie! Give me a Scout shirt and a few merit badges and I’m ready to throw on a Tina Turner wig and sing “It’s Cookie Time!

Do your childhood memories ever influence your fashion choices?

AH! I LOVE YOU for including Shelley Long on this. I like to do “the Freddy” around the house, and the fella is always like, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!?!”

I love Troop Beverly Hills! I love that shirt and tell those haters that they wish they could wear a boys’ shirt and look as good as you do! 🙂

And honestly, I can only remember the closing 5 minutes of that movie. =(

How can you not like Shelley Long ie Phyllis Neffler in this film. Knock her down and she,ll get up again and again and again. I think that is how Shelley is in real life because she has been knocked down a few times but she gets up and as she says keeps putting one foot in front of the other. I thought this was a really enjoyable film and the kerbside disco and the Freddy were excellent. You tube has Freddy and the Dreams doing the original Freddy.

are you serious?? do i remember troop beverly hills?? You couldnt tell me i wasnt apart of it it!!! Singing ” Beverly Hills what thrill” I absolutely love this movie!!!!! And you know what you can’t worry about the peanut gallery…everyone is going to have their opinion but remember that no one is perfect…so they too have faults. I absolutely love the outfit and i would have never thought to put this together like this. You continue to be true to Tamia and and learn to appreciate your haters. It’s when they don’t talk about you is when you should worry…Continue to do your thing 🙂

LOL! Brings back memories! When I was in Jr. High I used to wear an army type shirt. And because of my “well-endowment” the boys took to calling me ‘Lt. BigOnes”. The would routinely run up to me and salute me with their faces inches from my chest. One even ran up to me and voluteered for “look out”. Who knew teenaged boys could be so witty?
