Pink (shoe) Lady

10 Comments 20 May 2011

Plastic Island dress; vintage shoes; hand-crocheted clutch made by a friend; Forever21 ring

I’m not usually one for bright colors (even though I’m trying, I swear!), but a pop of hot pink does wonders for even the most sedate color schemes. Apparently, my girl Barbie still wields a fair amount of influence over my sartorial choices.

Have a great weekend!

Shop Around: Atomic Number 10

5 Comments 18 May 2011

Sometimes when I’m out shopping, I see things I like but can’t fit/can’t afford/have no business even looking at. Being the generous person that I am, I thought I’d share some of my favorite finds in hopes that these items find a good home!

This time around, I hit Atomic Number 10 (Style Tour stop #1!) in search of pants, shorts, and tops for my DIY collection:

I found a pair of Proenza-worthy ikat shorts (unfortunately too large for me) and a nice selection of floaty ’70s secretary blouses.

I’d love to see this bib dress taken up a few inches for a cute minidress, and the colors on this sheath are a perfect example of the color blocking trend.

I just KNEW I was going home with this Star Trek uniform-meets-YSL blouse, but it was a bit too big, and if those colorful heeled sandals are still there the next time stop in, I’ll consider it fate–even though they’re a size too big (they’re 8s).

I plan on getting this lace crop top as soon as I figure out what to do with it (unless someone else gets to it first), and a size medium someone needs to snatch up this dress if only for the poufy sleeved goodness.

Nothing I looked at was over $20, so if you see something you like, go for it!

Tangled up

Victoria’s Secret sweater; thrifted skirt and purse; gifted Casualmere scarf, Gucci sunglasses

Not to keep harping on the weather, but please let the record show that I’m wearing a wool skirt and sweater. In May. The last time I wore this skirt, it was practically a winter wonderland. Who do I need to contact to make sure this weather switch doesn’t happen again?

Neiman Marcus sweater; thrifted skirt, belt, and clutch; vintage vest, Jessica Simpson boots

I decided to pep things up a bit with some Spring-y colors, since Mother Nature is clearly not interested in cooperating. April, along with its hair-frizzing, shoe game-ruining showers is supposed to be OVAH. I’m ready for my May flowers now, please.

Can’t get away

9 Comments 20 April 2011

No matter how I try, I just can’t seem to get away from grays and neutrals. I want to–I do!–but TEH GRAYZ are such a prevalent part of my wardrobe it’s hard to resist. I swear, one day I’m gonna bust out in red and pink and shock the heck out of everyone–including myself.

H&M skirt and sweater; vintage blouse, necklace, and shoes; AA socks; Marc Jacobs bag

Oh, and to go along with the ’70s secretary vibe, I decided to get my own pair of  extra thick Coke-bottle glasses. When I say thick, I mean THICK–the lens is  practically the width of my pinky finger because I’m severely vision-impaired. What do you think?

Def Leopard

Thrifted blouse, necklace, and boots; Grey Ant jeans; Stetson hat

Something about the combination of leopard print, ’70s-style denim (which I swear I ironed, though it apparently made NO difference), and a crisp Panama hat feels a little Zsa Zsa, a little Jimi, a little Michael, and verrrry rock ‘n roll. All I need now is for someone to pour some sugar on me!

Jalouse-y

9 Comments 04 April 2011

Last weekend, I took some time to catch up on my required reading–magazines, of course–and came across an editorial of pitch-perfect ’70s secretary looks in the February issue of Jalouse:

I don’t know how they knew (darn Frenchies!), but this is exactly how I want to dress right now. Ladylike blouses, belted blazers, and cropped trousers are at the top of my Spring wish list. For now, I’m making do with what I already have:

Thrifted…well, everything. FriendBoy’s old “birth control” glasses

I know ’70s style is making a comeback for the skabillionth (it’s a word!) time since the actual seventies, but it’s always been my favorite decade style-wise. What’s yours?
