Photo Diary: Polaroid Party

1 Comment 08 August 2011

Last weekend, I:

Got dressed up as a bottle of Sriracha sauce for a surprise party, had my first taste of homemade peach sriracha ice cream (um, YUM), took some street style pics at The City Flea, was rudely reminded of my lack of hand-eye coordination during a shoddily played round of beer pong, and realized that despite the horrible writing for Crazy Stupid Love, I should probably be hanging out with Ryan Gosling.

How was your weekend?

Print My Message in the Sun

So apparently we’ve reached that time of year when the temperature hits the ’90s and just stays there for the next month and a half. Hooray!

Days like this call for loose shapes and breathable fabric, so I dug up this vintage top (which I’m pretty sure belonged to my mom and may or may not be part of a pajama set) and a thrifted skirt I worked my elastic-replacing magic on.  I’m thinking both pieces must be from the same era, because the flower appliques are nearly a perfect match. Either that, or there’s some serious fashion kismet at work here…

Stronger Than Me

Of course I choose to squeeze my bloated belly into my favorite (but TIGHT) bustier on a day when it’s 95 degrees in the shade. Clearly not the most stellar idea I’ve ever had.

Grey Ant bustier; Forever21 tank; H&M jeans, Jeffrey Campbell shoes

For once, I’m actually GLAD the weekend is over. The past one was a doozy, with news of massacres and train wrecks and vengeful gunmen and celebrity death suffocating us in tandem with the heat.

All of the bad news is heartbreaking, though Amy Winehouse’s death affected me in a different way–I suspect because her music is inextricably interwoven with treasured parts of my life. I listened to “Stronger Than Me” almost nonstop during my trip to the Philippines, and Amy’s death has moved it to the front of my playlist once again. Listen, laugh, enjoy:

Thoughts of You Get In My Eyes

Kookai top; Forever21 skirt; Seychelles sandals; Hats in the Belfry hat

When it’s this hot (96 degrees according to my phone), there are only three things I care to wear:

1. Cotton underwear (do I really need to explain?),
2. A straw hat to block the sun, and
3. Plenty of SPF 85.

Everything else is just an attempt to avoid public indecency.

Have a great weekend!

Tough Enough

UO tank & purse, Kill City jeans, Jeffrey Campbell shoes, vintage necklaces

I got swept away by some ’80s nostalgia while cruising the internets and subsequently went all Mr. T on your arses in a muscle tee, oversized gold chains, and Isweartheyweren’tthistightlastyear jeans. Am I tough enough?

Sherlock and the Revolution

Something about this overcoat (as it is a proper overcoat) makes me feel like a cross between Purple Rain-era Prince and Sherlock Holmes. Which is to say it makes me feel EXTRASUPERDOPE.

“Tell Wendy and Lisa to find Dr. Watson, stat!”

Gap jeans, NY & Co shirt, overcoat from an old costume, vintage clutch and shoes, Urban Outfitters scarf

Do you ever wear clothes that make you feel like a character (in a good way)?

Blue (and gray) period

Continuing my fixation on layering sweaters, I decided to go in a slightly different direction and integrate the holey/raggedy jeans I stole borrowed stole from FriendBoy.

I thought it would be Ricky Gervais-clever to use the ties on the wrap sweater to hold up the jeans. I realized it wasn’t such a stellar idea when I had to get unwrapped go to the bathroom. Live and learn!

H&M cardigan, Victoria’s Secret wrap sweater, Anthropologie top, Levi’s jeans, Charles David shoes, Marc Jacobs bag

The jeans fit fairly well, because luckily(?), his waist is almost the same size as mine. Is it just me or is it disheartening to watch the number on the tag of your pants go up, even when it’s just one size?
