C'est Ma Vie, Holidays

New Favorites

3 Comments 30 December 2011

The great thing about having a mom who reads your blog (besides the fact that supportive moms are the best EVER), is that they kind of already know what you want for Christmas. Selfish Wish List posts are like public letters to Santa!

I posted this query for flat boots and reader Tamu really came through with suggestions. I got these comfy Calvin Klein boots for Christmas!

After expressing my obsession with non-ugly camera bags, I found this Epiphanie bag under the Christmas tree. I LOVE this purse-bag! It works perfectly with the little gift I bought myself…

…A “used” new-in-box Nikon 18-55 VR lens to replace an old lens that was broken in a freak parking lot incident (the camera crashed to the ground and I swear I stood there with tears in my eyes willing time to move backwards for a good five minutes).

Yay for grown-up toys! Did you get anything good?

Current Obsession: Camera Purses

3 Comments 11 December 2011

Camera bags exist to serve a very specific function: to safely and securely hold camera equipment. Most have padded compartments designed to fit a DSLR camera body, a lens or two, a flash, and maybe spot for cash and keys. Unfortunately, they’re usually UGLY. I’m talking black-and-gray-nylon-and-elasticized-mesh ugly.

When I’m carrying my camera around getting street style shots or working on a photography project, I prefer to carry a bag that will fit my equipment AND my lip gloss/phone/wallet thankyouverymuch. Thanks to other enterprising women who feel the same way, there are plenty of non-ugly options for those of us who prefer to carry our cameras in style:

1. Epiphanie Lola Bag, 164.99 I love the styling and slightly slouchy shape.  | 2. Emera Classic Canvas bag, $169 Refined, simple, classic.  |  3. Cheeky Lime Livy bag, $129 This style has the added feature of a space for your laptop, too! 4. Kelly Moore Libby bag, $249 All of the Kelly Moore bags look like legit stylish purses. Nice.5. JoTotes Millie bag, $87 Rachael had one of these at the Holiday Style Bash. I was all set to compliment her on her cute purse, and it turned out to be a camera bag!

Design Project: OTR Gift Guide

1 Comment 24 November 2011

I recently finished a big photography and design project: An online gift guide for independent businesses in Over-the-Rhine. The area’s merchant groups wanted something to showcase the variety and depth of gift-appropriate items available on Main and Vine streets to encourage people to shop local this holiday season.

Environment and product photography

Page design and layout

So, after running from store to store taking pictures for two days and spending several more days (and very late nights!) working on the design and layout, it was ready!

You can click through the entire guide here, and if you happen to live in the area, I hope you’ll take advantage of all our city has to offer and do some shopping in OTR!

I’m Not a Model But I Play One on This Blog

5 Comments 23 September 2011

H&M dress worn as blouse; BDG pants; Belle by Sigerson Morrison boots; vintage key (from the Taft Theater!) and cross necklace charms, Da-Me hat

My friend Ann was nice enough to invite me to her studio (which makes me really want a studio) to take some pictures. She was great, but I am clearly not a model. CLEARLY.

Have a great weekend!

Noted Fashion Photographer (TM)

7 Comments 14 September 2011

I hate to admit it, but I can be really slow sometimes. I was going through my pictures to make a digital photo album for Ted, when I came across a picture from last year’s Fashion’s Night Out.

I peered at my screen, leaning closer to my computer. Hey, that looks like… Wait, is that…?

Model Joan Smalls and her…agent?

Joan Smalls posed for me and I didn’t even remember!  She of countless magazine editorials, Fashion Week runways, international ad campaigns, and frequent appearances on my Tumblr (the last being the most significant of the aforementioned accomplishments, of course).

How did I not realize that I’m practically a Noted Fashion Photographer? I’m like Inez and Vinoodh AND Mert and Marcus rolled into one!

Anna darling, call me!

Weekend Photo Diary: Booty Fights and a Photo Shoot

3 Comments 11 July 2011

Busy weekend! I headed to Fountain Square on Friday night to snap some pictures and check out the Indie Summer show.

Cincy Brass got the party started, and Big Freedia? Big Freedia turned it into a Par-TAY with a capital P, with multiple simultaneous booty fights happening on stage. Seriously, if you don’t know about New Orleans bounce, you have to check her out. Azz everywhere, indeed.

The City Flea

On Saturday, I stopped by The City Flea to take some street style pics for A-Line, browse, and of course, eat.

Once again, people brought their fashion A-game, and now my new goal in life is to get my hands on that icing squeezer thingy (mmm, buttercream) so I can eat it straight out of the bag. Thanks for the motivation, Jess!

Photo Shoot

On Sunday, I piled a bunch of clothes and shoes in my car and headed over to Falling Wall condos to style a photo shoot for A-Line magazine.

It was crazybusyfunexhausting, but the models, photographer, hair and makeup artist, and magazine girls were so fantastic, it was a blast!

How was your weekend?
