What, no fireworks?

Between hanging out with my family, acting as an all-you-can-eat buffet for mosquitoes, and perfecting my smoothie-making technique (I’m up to two per day. Seriously, it’s a problem), I spent most of the holiday weekend working on the new issue of Style Sample magazine. I didn’t even get to see fireworks, and I love fireworks. Ah, well. Maybe Labor Day…

“A free digital magazine focused on and written by fashion bloggers, Style Sample just released it’s sixth issue [actually, it's the seventh issue]. While the base site is more of a boon for bloggers (it provides plenty of how-to info and technology tips), it also allows readers to click through to the issues. And that’s where an overload of creativity lives. Although it’s a bit meta for anyone who isn’t personally in the blogging trenches, it’s an excellent venue for scouting talent for possible corporate sponsorship. Beyond that, it’s just a fascinating place to hang out for anyone whose job description includes style.”

OH. EM. GEE.

For those not completely obsessed with fashion, WWD is basically the bible of the style industry. And Style Sample magazine is in it! Now, if you will excuse me, I’m ’bout to go do my happy dance…

An Editor’s Ramblings

I’ve been working my *^% off on the upcoming issue of Style Sample magazine only to have an uncooperative cover subject flake and not send photos.

A great article was written (and it was difficult to get responses to the interview questions–I should have known then), four inside pages have been allotted, the issue comes out in a matter of days, and after repeated requests and multiple deadline extensions, I have no photos for the article and no cover image.

Seriously, boo? That’s unfair not only to me, but to the writer of the article and all the other contributors who managed to get their sh*t together and send everything in on time. Real talk.

It’s cool, though. I’ve been working on a mini-redesign and am excited to see what everyone thinks. I’m also experimenting with some ads, so we’ll see how that goes as well.

So it’s not like I don’t have enough on my plate, but whatever, we’ll make it work. I just wish people would stick to their commitments, you know?

From Sunup to Midnight

I’ve been workin’ (workin’) day and night on the upcoming issue of Style Sample magazine, out on October 6th. I’m almost finished with the cover–all the text is there, but for some reason I feel the need to tweak it a bit. Something is niggling at me…maybe the colors. Any suggestions?

I’m also trying to get revved up for my birthday this Sunday! I’m not really in the mood for a big ol’ bash, just a nice dinner with the ‘rents and FriendBoy. I’m feeling more chiiiilllll, you know? I like to think this is a sign of “maturity” as opposed to old age. It’s probably old age, though.

Of course, I accept all cash, checks, major credit cards, and birthday wishes should you be so inclined…

How very subtle of me. Teehee!

Style: Such a Tees

On my way to Fountain Square to take a break from working (and working and working) on the upcoming issue of Style Sample Magazine. I decided to wear my new Nati Evolvement tee (thanks guys!) with a stretchy cotton pencil skirt and the high-heeled ugly-but-cool booties to sex it up a bit. After adding a print scarf and a casually tipped beret, I was ready for some Graeter’s ice cream*!

It’s a really easy look to achieve:

1. Shirt, Nati Evolvement 2. Beret, asos 3. Skirt, Forever21 4. Heels, Topshop 5. Scarf, Urban Outfitters
*Side note: I’m starting to think I live too close to Graeters. You’d think having to walk 9 blocks to get there would be a deterrent, but…nope. Not for me. Apparently, I am not able to live within walking distance of yummy frozen treats without overdoing it–I’m talking double scoops, topping, whipped cream, the whole nine… Dang!
