6 minutes to get clear on your marketing

ATTN entrepreneurs: Take 6 minutes to read this post and I’ll help you get clear on your marketing.

I know you know that content marketing is crucial to consistently earning more revenue. Hubspot’s research shows that buyers consume five to six pieces of content before converting to a sale, so if you’re not sharing content, you’re leaving behind clients and losing out on money. It’s that simple.

Here’s the deal: Your ideal customer will go through a journey before they decide to purchase your product or service. And what moves them through that journey?

YOUR CONTENT.

The trick is knowing what to post to attract your ideal clients

You have to know who they are, what they’re looking for, and how you can provide that for them. Basically, you gotta give the people what they want.

But if you don’t know what they want or have a clear plan to produce the content that will lead them on that journey directly to YOU, you’re likely to find yourself on the Doing-Work-OR-Getting-Clients rollercoaster. And if you’re trying to consistently earn more, that’s not gonna fly.

In the early days, there was no real plan for content

I’ve been creating content since 2006ish: First on message boards (we used to describe what we were wearing each day, without pictures), then on platforms like MyStyleDiary and Fotki, then on blogs, and finally on social media.

When I started this site, I didn’t have a real plan other than I wanted people to see my cute outfits and I liked creating magazine-style layouts. Content strategy wasn’t even an idea of a thought, and I definitely didn’t expect anything from it, save a creative outlet.

But as I continued to post, people started noticing. I got invited to launch parties and press events. Magazine editors asked me to style photo shoots. Local businesses offered to give me free stuff. National brands paid me to talk about their goods on my site.

The more I put out, the more I got back.

This was ye olden days of the internet and there was less competition for eyeballs, but there’s still something to be said for putting your stuff out there.

Anyone who comes to me for advice about getting started as a stylist or becoming a successful photographer or growing their small business gets similar advice: SHARE.

Share what you’re doing, how you do it, who you’re doing it for. Tell your story. Show your work.

So if you’ve been wondering how to use your innate genius to market yourself and grow your business, try this simple formula:

Marketing Strategy + Content Calendar + Batch Produce

This is the easiest way to market yourself so you’re consistently bringing in more clients and making an extra 4-5 figures per month.

Here’s how it breaks down:

STRATEGY

Develop a solid content marketing strategy designed to help you reach your business and financial goals. You’ll have more clarity on your ideal customer, how to guide them directly to what you’re selling, and what content will help convince them to buy.

Here’s how to create your content strategy

CALENDAR

Create a simple content calendar that clearly outlines exactly what to post to lead your ideal clients on the journey to YOU.

Your calendar should cover important dates, your content categories and the 4 P’s of content marketing, a call to action (CTA) to drive traffic and sales, the platform(s) where you’ll be sharing this info, and the type/s of imagery that will help you tell and sell the story.

Here’s what to include on your content calendar

Batch

Outline a clear schedule for batch producing and scheduling content so you’re bringing in leads on autopilot.

This includes copywriting, creating graphics, taking pictures and video, and uploading everything to a content scheduling tool like Buffer or Later so you can get it all done at once and focus on other stuff—like relaxing!

Here’s an easy schedule for batch-producing content

With this simple formula, you’ll be able to create and schedule a month or more of content in just a few days.

Which is the whole point of content marketing: You’re busy running your business, so your content should do the work of marketing and selling FOR you.

With the right strategy, a manageable calendar, and a system for getting it done, you’ll have a built-in Chief Marketing Officer that works for you 24-7.

That sounds simple enough, but I just want someone to do it for me.

Whew, I hear you! Luckily, after years of developing and creating content for magazines, websites, and corporations, it’s hella fun for me! Plus, I love working with fellow entrepreneurs (y’all are my people) and helping them grow their businesses.

That’s exactly why I created Complete Content Calendar (CCCal), a custom done-for-you content calendar that takes the stress out of small business marketing.

CCCal gives you Marketing Strategy + Content Calendar + Batch Production Schedule so you know exactly what to share and you can do it QUICKLY. Efficiently. Fun-ly (is that a word?)

Here’s a peek at how:

1.   We spend time digging into your business goals, resources, and your zone of genius using my signature strategic framework.

This ensures that your content attracts consistent leads, traffic, and customers on autopilot.

2.   I create a custom, detailed 90-day calendar for your blog, social media, and email content specifically designed lead your ideal clients directly to what you’re selling.

The calendar also includes direction for photos, videos + graphics you’ll need based on your content, and a production schedule so you know when to batch produce.

3.   You work with your team to follow the blueprint and expand upon any written content, create imagery, and schedule content for the next three months in a week or less.

CCCal is a game-changer for entrepreneurs who want consistently higher income but have less time to spend on their content.

After we work together, clients say things like:

“I feel like a weight has been lifted!”

“I’m actually excited about my content instead of triggered by it!”

“You just made my marketing SO MUCH EASIER.”

I get so excited seeing what people create and how much their business grows, so let’s chat about working together: book a free content coaching call.
