A few facts:
This past weekend was hot as monkey balls.
I don't get rid of clothes, so I wind up with a lot of what I like to call "personal vintage"--stuff I know I should've given away years ago, but have kept for so long that it's coming back. This circa 1997 Express romper absolutely falls under that category. See also: 8th grade jeans
My kitty is very sick and I'm not sure how much
Reading about everyone's tropical vacations this summer when the furthest I'm destined to travel is Northern Kentucky (which yes, is just as exciting as it sounds. As in not at all.) has been a bit depressing. I like hot weather and beaches and drinks with umbrellas in them, too!
One third of my prayers was answered when it got up to the 90's this past weekend, so I decided to look on the bright side and
Dynasty reruns notwithstanding, I think we can safely say 80's fashion has been in full-on revival mode since the surprisingly persistent return of the legging. Though early 90's-era grunge has been threatening to take over for the last few seasons, the multitude of shoulder pads on the Fall runways indicated that, at least 'til next February, the 80's are still the retro decade of the moment.

After clicking through some of the looks from the recent couture shows, I went back and reviewed some of my favorite collections from Fall 2009. I was drooling over the combination of studs and sequins at Balmain and reminiscing about Michael Jackson's foray into French ready-to-wear when I made a startling connection:

You really can't go wrong with this classic color combination, especially when it's accented with a unique accessory like this vintage 80's belt I picked up while thrift shopping:
