Clad in Plaid

I own exactly two plaid items: the blazer last seen here, and a long wrap skirt. Both were picked up on various Thrifting Adventures.

The skirt in its native state

When I first saw the skirt in all its Highland glory, I got a distinct McQueen/Westwood-y vibe from the color and length.

Half-brained idea in mind, I played around with pinning and draping, then rigged it up using the attached ties when I was satisfied. It only took one safety pin! Can you say bootleg?

Seriously, is this like the clothing equivalent of covering a wire hanger in aluminum foil and calling it a TV antenna?

FriendBoy got us tickets to see The Nutcracker, so I figured a little drama was in order: If I was gonna wear plaid, I was gonna wear plaid. ALL PLAID. For me, it’s one of those patterns that looks best mixed up and layered, tartan and colors be damned.

Plus, plaid seems so darn cozy, perfect for the snowy weather. I could be wearing a red flannel onesie with a trap door in the booty and you’d never know! Unless I told you on my blog…umm. Right.

Thrifted skirt, blazer, gloves, and boots; FriendBoy’s shirt; gifted Casualmere scarf

If you haven’t been to see The Nutcracker, there’s still time! I’ve been pirouette-ing and fouette-ing to the bits of  Tchaikovsky left over in my head.

*FriendBoy contributed the title of this post. He was extremely proud of his cleverness, so…let’s just let him have this one, mmkay?

I really love the skirt! I think it would look great with a black turtle neck and costume jewellery as a holidays parties look

The pinning and draping is perfect! Thrifted finds are by far the most rewarding kind.
