Casual Style: Sweat Me
Do you ever feel like it’s easier to get dressed up than it is to go casual? Sometimes I have a hard time on the weekends because 70% of my wardrobe is work clothing.
Sweatsuits are about as casual as it gets, and I have exactly two pair–they were Christmas gifts. I refuse to wear them outside of the house. As I am vehemently opposed to sweats of the hot-pink-velour-with-rhinestones-across-the-arse variety, I hadn’t given much thought to expanding my casual-wear options to include anything other than the occasional American Apparel tri-blend pullover.
So, I was surprised and more than a little relieved when designers started showing artfully styled sweats/casual wear on the runway:

Then I noticed some of my favorite bloggers were in on the game:
Jane of Sea of Shoes, Rumi of Fashion Toast, Juley of Swank Heights
That was enough to drive me to do some online window shopping (screen shopping?). Everything can be mixed and matched since the whole point is to look like you just threw it on:
1. Scarf, Urban Outfitters; 2. Boots, Aldo; 3. VPL knit top, La Garconne; 4. Rider tee, Delia’s; 5. Knit pants, Anthropologie; 6. Jeweled cuff, Forever 21; 7. Stretch-knit shorts, American Apparel; 8. Marni necklace, Brown’s London; 9. Pour La Victoire shoes, shopbop
Perfect for those times when even jeans take too much thought. What do you wear to look semi-presentable on your roll-out-of-bed casual days?

March 2, 2009 at 12:46 pmSweatpants… outside… in front of people??? The horror!!! I’m with you on being deathly opposed to sweats. But adding a bit of jersey gray isn’t all that bad as long as it’s styled up. I have a gray pullover and that’s a casual as I think I can get.

March 2, 2009 at 1:41 pmI like how the runway incorporated more casual wear, too. It seems like grey sweats are as far as you can go, but it looks great. I really like Rumi’s look.
And I love how you lay out your posts. I swear you have the best looking blog.

March 3, 2009 at 3:44 pmI completely agree! I have the most comfortable pair of Superdry bottoms that have only ever seen the light of day in my fenced in terrace. I’m absolutely LOVING the new ‘Harem’ style sweat pants that are really baggy then sinched in at the bottom, but they are proving something of a pain to find.

March 3, 2009 at 10:10 pmHarry, I can’t believe Topman or H&M doesn’t have some version of these out yet. They need to get on the ball!

March 4, 2009 at 3:29 pmTamia,
You are *so* on the money, as always! Y’know, only the other day, I found myself playing around with a pair of tapered Stella McCartney for Adidas “sweat pants” (bought for the gym; never worn) paired with some fierce snake skin heels. Guess what? I kinda liked it. But not sure if I could leave the house without looking like a bag lady…
And agree with Alicia (above): your blog is sooo polished; complete eye candy – LOVE IT!
