Style // I Beat the Trend!

I know it’s still summer, but every year around this time I start missing my boots and sweaters like they’re old friends I haven’t seen in a while. While browsing for a little cool-weather inspiration on style.com, I came across the ultimate fashion validation: Fall fashion trends that fall right in line with my personal style. Don’t you love when that happens?

Monochromatic gray I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: gray is the perfect non-color. Don’t take my word for it (shout out to LeVar Burton); Stella, Giorgio, and Vivienne all agree.

Menswear and fur I’ve always been a fan of menswear, ever since elementary school when I discovered that doing backflips in a dress just wasn’t practical. The juxtaposition of tailoring and texture is a favorite combination.

red plaid Chalk it up to a combo of school uniform envy and watching Aerosmith’s “Crazy” video one too many times, but something about traditional red plaid screams cozy and naughty all at the same time. The combo is just too good to resist.

In conclusion, fashion is a self-perpetuating cycle of faux invented “trends” meant to turn rational human beings into rabid consumerist zombies. Gawd, I love it.

Girl, your style is FIERCE. I don’t have half the ability to pull together a great look (unless I just copy what I see someone else wearing, which is what I’ll have to do with some of your outfits on this site!). I “met” you during Emily Thompson’s webinar yesterday (finally get around to looking at all the amazing sites shared during the event). I can’t wait to read more from you. I’m going to follow your social sites so I can keep up. I see that you like Purple Rain (who doesn’t?!) so I thought I’d let you know I mention that album on my blog today! Also, I saw you like ice cream and I have a recipe for the most amazing strawberry ice cream coming up Friday. Anyway, I hope we can connect and keep in touch. I love expanding my network of other amazing lady bosses and creative entrepreneurs. Becky
